Cut your household energy bills by £160 with some simple tweaks
Luckily we have been experiencing un-seasonally warm temperatures so far this autumn but as we approach the colder winter months, households are being encouraged to adopt minor changes in their energy consumption habits to help save money on their bills.
Research from charity Nesta suggests that by adopting three simple no cost changes could have a big impact on what we spend per year.
The research, conducted in collaboration with Cambridge Architectural Research (CAR), could help a household reduce their annual bills by as much as £160.
The three easy no cost changes are as follows:
1) Lower your combi boiler flow temperature to 60°C to save an average of £65.
2) Fine-tune the hot water temperature on a combi boiler to 42°C to save £17.
3) Turn down the radiator valves outside the living room by one setting to reduce demand and save a extra £78.
To think that these changes could save a household £160.00 per year is great news but the fact it could have an impact on UK generation costs could be a double win.
The cost to produce electricity and supply gas is at its highest at periods of high demand.
If this demand can be reduced by just a small percentage by adopting these simple tweaks it could help drive down costs for the UK as a whole.
