SUMMARY

The market resumed a downward trajectory for the majority of the week amid cooling tensions in the Middle East, despite elevated gas for power demand.

Reports that Oman had opened a temporary toll-free shipping route for vessels wishing to exit the Persian Gulf via Hormuz, stood out, as it demonstrated collaborative efforts from a regional player to clear the massive backlog of cargoes, some of which have been trapped in the area for nearly four months.

The width of the Strait of Hormuz is comprised of overlapping territorial waters of both Oman and Iran and the two countries are in talks to charge a toll for passage, reportedly to be implemented in the near-future. The Strait is also undergoing de-mining, a key stipulation of the US-Iran peace plan.

The GB power mix remained dominated by gas-fired generation with gas accounting for over 35% of total generation for most of the week.

This was made worse with France’s EDF temporarily shutting down two additional nuclear reactors due to elevated river water temperatures, compounding broader output reductions across the country’s massive nuclear fleet. Surplus French nuclear power plays an important role in balancing the power grids of neighbouring countries, including the UK.

Say 'No' to cold calling on business energy

Unfortunately, business electricity and business gas customers in the UK are bombarded with unsolicited cold calls on a daily basis.

This unscrupulous approach does not offer the business energy customer an impartial view on the market and the price offered is more often 20-30% above the current retail price for electricity or gas.

At Energy Advice Line we strongly advise customers to not accept these offers and follow our simple steps to ensure that they are not locked into an uncompetitive contract.

Join our cold calling campaign here, and spread the word to say 'no' to cold calling on business energy!
