SUMMARY

Prices climbed sharply towards the end of the week as escalating geopolitical tensions and persistent supply risks continued to unsettle markets.

The gas market witnessed rises across the entire curve, with the Summer 2026 contract posting some of the largest moves, rising more than 9p/th (0.307p/kWh) from Thursday to Friday.

Gas supply concerns remain a key driver of the rally, following Iran’s decision to close shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz for military exercises.

On the power front, baseload prices unsurprisingly tracked the strong gains seen in the gas market with geopolitical tensions and supply concerns also driving the bullish momentum.

A steep drop in renewable generation towards the end of the week also provided further support to the increases. National Grid data showed wind-output fell by an exceptional 47%, while solar generation declined by more than 16% from Thursday to Friday.

Say 'No' to cold calling on business energy

Unfortunately, business electricity and business gas customers in the UK are bombarded with unsolicited cold calls on a daily basis.

This unscrupulous approach does not offer the business energy customer an impartial view on the market and the price offered is more often 20-30% above the current retail price for electricity or gas.

At Energy Advice Line we strongly advise customers to not accept these offers and follow our simple steps to ensure that they are not locked into an uncompetitive contract.

Join our cold calling campaign here, and spread the word to say 'no' to cold calling on business energy!
