SUMMARY

This past week was a tale of two halves on the wholesale market, with rises in the first part of the week followed by small drops on Thursday and Friday, as supply confidence returned.

The drops in the second part of the week were largely attributed to a healthy LNG delivery schedule. According to the latest shipping signals, up to 7 vessels could arrive at British terminals over the next 7 days, 6 of which are laden with cargoes from the United States.

This was helped by a recent phase of weak gas demand across East Asian markets which has resulted in the diversion of dozens of cargoes toward the European market, helping nations in the region to fend off unseasonably low temperatures and below average wind generation that has persisted across a large part of January.

Norwegian gas supplies into Great Britain remained largely unchanged, with pipeline infrastructure running at near-maximum capacity. An unplanned outage at the Njord field has been removing export availability at a rate of 5.3mcm/d since Wednesday 15th due to process problems, though it is not considered a significantly large outage, and current data suggests it should conclude by Monday 20th.

Prices have also been helped with forecasts that demand was expected to fall below seasonal norms for the first time since 7th January. Although it remains cold, the UK is expected to see temperatures more in line with seasonal norms for the next 14 days.

Say 'No' to cold calling on business energy

Unfortunately, business electricity and business gas customers in the UK are bombarded with unsolicited cold calls on a daily basis.

This unscrupulous approach does not offer the business energy customer an impartial view on the market and the price offered is more often 20-30% above the current retail price for electricity or gas.

At Energy Advice Line we strongly advise customers to not accept these offers and follow our simple steps to ensure that they are not locked into an uncompetitive contract.

Join our cold calling campaign here, and spread the word to say 'no' to cold calling on business energy!
