British Gas announces a years worth of free electricity to charge your car

As reported by Energy Live News today, British Gas has announced a new offer providing electric car owners with a years free home charging if they purchase their Hive EV charger and switch to or use British Gas as their electricity supplier.

The customer must have the latest smart meter fitted as well as the Hive App downloaded on their phone.

The offer provides the consumer with 8000 miles of free charging as long as they are supplied by British Gas and only charge their car in off-peak hours, typically overnight.

British Gas will then reimburse the customer for the electricity used which can be tracked on their Hive app.

Gav Murray, Director of Hive at British Gas, stated, “We are on a mission to do all we can to make greener home solutions more affordable and accessible.

“Electric vehicle uptake is a key part of the UK’s drive to net zero. Our FreeCharge proposition not only supports this uptake but, by shifting charging to when demand on the grid is at its lowest, we’re accelerating the journey towards a greener future.”

This backs up Ofgems call for suppliers to keep up with the smart meter roll program as without a smart meter, initiatives such as this would not be possible.

Say 'No' to cold calling on business energy

Unfortunately, business electricity and business gas customers in the UK are bombarded with unsolicited cold calls on a daily basis.

This unscrupulous approach does not offer the business energy customer an impartial view on the market and the price offered is more often 20-30% above the current retail price for electricity or gas.

At Energy Advice Line we strongly advise customers to not accept these offers and follow our simple steps to ensure that they are not locked into an uncompetitive contract.
