SUMMARY

Despite contracts opening at higher prices on Friday, the NBP recorded three consecutive days of losses despite the bullish drivers being largely unchanged.

Market participants continue to closely monitor conflicts in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, which have had a direct impact on global energy flows and security.

An unplanned outage at a major Norwegian field likely limited further reductions at the front-end on Thursday. According to data from offshore operator Gassco, production at the Troll field was cut by 39.4mcm due to a compressor failure.

The outage worsened gradually over the course of the week and offline capacity rose to 46.2mcm on Friday. For context, total GB gas demand for Friday is forecasted at around 90mcm.

An exceptionally strong end to the week for renewable generation helped to further reduce prices at the front-end of the baseload power curve. Data from Elexon showed that wind alone accounted for 52.9% of the GB power mix on Thursday, with overall renewables comprising an exceptional 73.5% of generation, this is the highest level of renewables in the mix since May 2025 and very close to a record.

Say 'No' to cold calling on business energy

Unfortunately, business electricity and business gas customers in the UK are bombarded with unsolicited cold calls on a daily basis.

This unscrupulous approach does not offer the business energy customer an impartial view on the market and the price offered is more often 20-30% above the current retail price for electricity or gas.

At Energy Advice Line we strongly advise customers to not accept these offers and follow our simple steps to ensure that they are not locked into an uncompetitive contract.

Join our cold calling campaign here, and spread the word to say 'no' to cold calling on business energy!
