SUMMARY

A two week ceasefire in the Middle East coming into force and reports of the Strait of Hormuz opening back up sparked a strong downward swing at the NBP in the 2nd half of the week.

With the Gulf of Persia responsible for shipping 20% of global LNG cargoes prior to the war through the Strait of Hormuz, news that it could re-open as part of the ceasefire exerted significant downward pressure on the markets and brought prices back to a level not seen since early March.

Uncertainty around the soundness of the ceasefire however served as a price floor for energy markets. With Israel continuing to strike Lebanon, it’s clear that key points of the ceasefire are yet to be finalised.

UK baseload power prices also posted significant losses, tracking significant reductions in the wider energy complex following news of a US–Iran ceasefire.

The easing of geopolitical risk weighed heavily on commodity markets, with crude oil and natural gas prices falling heavily, which in turn filtered through to the power market.

Say 'No' to cold calling on business energy

Unfortunately, business electricity and business gas customers in the UK are bombarded with unsolicited cold calls on a daily basis.

This unscrupulous approach does not offer the business energy customer an impartial view on the market and the price offered is more often 20-30% above the current retail price for electricity or gas.

At Energy Advice Line we strongly advise customers to not accept these offers and follow our simple steps to ensure that they are not locked into an uncompetitive contract.

Join our cold calling campaign here, and spread the word to say 'no' to cold calling on business energy!
