SUMMARY

NBP gas prices surged on Monday following widespread strikes on industrial and military infrastructure across the Middle East.

Several countries across the Persian Gulf were caught in the crossfire throughout the week, as the US and Israel engaged in renewed clashes with Iran.

Critically, airstrikes across the Middle East continue make transit via the Strait of Hormuz impossible for the time being, with proposed plans by the US to escort vessels through the key shipping route not yet materialising.

Forecasts of muted demand moving further into March helped put a lid on further increases to the near-curve; according to the latest run of the Crown Gas and Power 14-day model, demand will average slightly below seasonal norms until at least 19th March, easing storage concerns.

On the power side, the wider energy complex resumed its upward trajectory on Thursday after a brief pause. Wind generation averaged at a rate of 10.6GW between Monday to Thursday, down from 16.1GW across the same period last week, with higher reliance on fossil fuels perhaps amplifying the increases.

Say 'No' to cold calling on business energy

Unfortunately, business electricity and business gas customers in the UK are bombarded with unsolicited cold calls on a daily basis.

This unscrupulous approach does not offer the business energy customer an impartial view on the market and the price offered is more often 20-30% above the current retail price for electricity or gas.

At Energy Advice Line we strongly advise customers to not accept these offers and follow our simple steps to ensure that they are not locked into an uncompetitive contract.

Join our cold calling campaign here, and spread the word to say 'no' to cold calling on business energy!
