Business Electricity and Gas Users – Beware of cold callers

We have had reports recently from customers of sales agents for some of the energy companies using misleading tactics to renew their business electricity or business gas contracts.
On occasions the agents have let the customers believe that they are following up on an earlier call from staff at Energy Advice Line and then completing a contract with a supplier whose rates for business electricity and business gas are far worse than those we would recommend, they are then unable to cancel the contract and find themselves locked into a rate that is uncompetitive.

These agents often only work for one or two suppliers whose rates are usually much higher in order to pay the commissions of these callers.

If you are contacted directly by a caller please check who they are working for and if they let you believe they are from a reputable independent price comparison site, hang up and call that company direct do not be mislead into signing such a contract you will regret it.

Julian Morgan, MD Energy Advice Line commented “these tactics seem to have become more prevalent recently and these agents are quite unscrupulous in their tactics, their only aim is to get a business customer signed up to a contract with no thought for how punitive or damaging that could be to a business’s future. Once signed it is almost impossible to get out of, therefore I urge all business energy users to be aware of these tactics and if any doubt please check with an independent energy price comparison such as ours”.
